Leather gloves are not only a fashionable element of men’s and women’s wardrobe, but also a very functional accessory that provides comfort, for example: while driving a car. There are many materials used to make gloves, but there is a question: which leather works best?
Gloves made of natural leather are characterized by elegance, but also style that catches everyone’s eyes. Leather gloves emphasize the style of the owner and his / her stylization, to which they are worn. In the wardrobe of every man and woman whose style is filled with elegance and style, there should be at least one pair of leather gloves made of natural leather.
Types of leather
Nowadays, more and more people are choosing to buy gloves made of natural leather, which are not cheap but are worth the higher price. The price of gloves includes not only a large amount of manual work, but also the type of used material. Leather for the production of gloves is carefully selected, which guarantees the highest quality of the product. The perfect pair of gloves should be made of durable leather, but not too thick so that the hand can easily move.
It is important to underline the high meaning of the leather tanning process – this procedure requires time, as well as the use of appropriate and safe chemicals that will strengthen the material without irritating the owner’s skin of the hands and ensure freedom of movement.
One of the most popular leather for making gloves is lambskin. Lamb leather is durable, and at the same time guarantees the greatest softness and elasticity, making it the best leather for production of the natural leather gloves. High-quality lambskin is resistant to both abrasion and cracking resulting from everyday use. In the case of lambskin, the surface is smooth and regular with only a small amount of flaws. The best types of lambskin come from Ethiopia or North Africa, such as Tunisia.
Next to the best type of leather – lambskin stands sheepskin, which has lambskin-like features – the only difference is that it comes from older and larger animals, which affects the deterioration of the skin. Although sheepskin is durable, it is more susceptible to damage than lambskin, and in addition it is less elastic and thus less well suited to the hand. Despite the worse parameters, it still works very well and is a cheaper alternative to lambskin gloves. Nowadays, many people also decide to buy goatskin gloves, which are characterized by high durability and significant graininess of the surface, which works more well for men’s haberdashery. Goatskin is less elastic and does not guarantee such comfort as lambskin. Importantly, it also has lower thermal properties than lambskin, thus less keeping heat.
Popular leather materials also include calf leather, which is thicker and stiffer than others. The strength of calf leather depends on the proper tanning process, which causes its price to increase significantly.
Exclusive leather varieties
Other types of leather that are available on the market are: deerskin, reindeer leather or peccary leather. Winter gloves made of them are very flexible, thin and at the same time do not lose their durability and strength and provide warmth. The above mentioned types of leather are very expensive and also difficult to obtain due to low supply. Therefore, not all manufacturers of gloves undertake the production of gloves from this types of leather.
